I have indeed bought this. Now I have to send the money and figure out shopping or storage until I ship it. This has got to be the absolute best impulse buy I've ever made.

You have made a good.

No, wait.

Well it is nonrunning. But I kind of do want keep the 1600cc VW engine.

Pack a carry-on with hand tools, fly out and drive home. It'll be like living a Roadkill episode.

I keed! Congrats, enjoy that sucker.

If it ran I would. I would do that no questions asked.

It's a Bug, how hard can it be to get it running?
![]() 10/06/2014 at 20:34 |
|
No clue, it's almost 1500 miles west.
![]() 10/06/2014 at 20:35 |

Where is it?

I didn't think it was a runner. But you can enjoy the journey getting it there, and there are no shortage of options mechanically so you've got lots of fun ahead.

I'm thinking of heading out there and shoving it in a storage unit and once the snow is off the ground here at home shipping it home.

I just noticed the window graphic and now everything is kaleidoscope vision

Who even cares if it runs? Look at it! Absolutely glorious. I'd just have them dump it in my front yard and call it a day...best lawn ornament ever.

I've said the same thing already today when a coworker asked me why I would buy a bug that is not running and across the country.
![]() 10/06/2014 at 22:39 |

I'd stop talking to that person immediately. You don't need that kind of negativity in your life. One, it's a Baja Bug, so you immediately become best friends with Raphael Orlove, which is probably worth whatever you paid. Two, it's a Baja Bug, so it's awesome. Three, it's a Baja Bug, so it's a BAJA BUG. Some people, man.
![]() 10/06/2014 at 23:38 |
|
Exactly. Some people don't understand the draw of a bug let alone a Baja Bug. And these are relatively rare in Indiana. One guy said I could probably pick up a running example in state for around $1500, I laughed.
![]() 10/07/2014 at 01:05 |

Four, it's a Beetle, so you become best friends with Jason Torchinsky. Five, since you're friends with Torch now and he doesn't have any place else to go is it okay if he sleeps on your couch for like five or six months? He has three shirts, two pairs of jeans, seven pairs of underwear, and a storage unit full of graphs and charts.

Ha, yeah no...you can't buy a running anything anymore for $1500, let alone something cool and collectible. I just can't get over how cool looking it is. I love the paint scheme. You gonna get it running and basically keep it as is?
![]() 10/07/2014 at 17:53 |
|
Believe it or not I'm not as crazy about the paint job as everybody else. I'm thinking of an era correct metal flake green with maybe a gold stripe. I want it to be fairly flamboyant.

o forgot to mention that I despise the LS everything mentality, even if you were joking.
![]() 10/07/2014 at 17:56 |

I'm ashamed to admit that I hadn't even noticed that. I'm even more in love now.

As long as it's something outrageous, I'm cool. Green and gold is always a favorite of mine...my high school colors. Go Hawks!

It was a joke, aping on the fact that everything seems to get an LS swap these days.

I was going with a LoZ theme.

Running, inspect-able (though rusty) 1990 Miata. $950 :P
![]() 10/08/2014 at 06:45 |

Eh, I'm not a Miata guy. Probably a good deal though, I just wouldn't fit, haha.
![]() 10/08/2014 at 07:23 |

I'm 6'2", I'm making it work (just). It has the dual purpose of giving me a car to learn stick on, and eventually serving as a donor car to build my frankenstein Saab Sonett
![]() 10/08/2014 at 07:56 |
|
There's nothing that you just said that I don't like. Miata powered Sonett, is that a common swap? I don't think I've ever seen it. Also, my Miata issue isn't height, it's width, haha.
![]() 10/08/2014 at 09:01 |
|
Gotcha. If it were near me I'd store it until snow flew.
![]() 10/08/2014 at 17:42 |
|
I would love to find an opponaut or jalop near there to act as my agent. I need somebody to look over getting a storage unit and tow truck to take it to said unit.
![]() 10/08/2014 at 17:47 |

uhhh, no. its a lot more than just a swap that i have planned. The Sonett's entire frame/floor is one heaping pile of rust, so this is more of a body swap
Miata front/rear sub assemblies, suspension, etc
+ Tube Frame
Stuffed under the Sonett body in a manner similar to this
It is going to be a... long project

That's going to be beyond awesome. Good luck with it, sounds like a ton of work, but it's going to be fantastic.
